Calls for papers have been released for two really exciting conferences:

• Contested Spaces: Conflict, Counter-Narrative and Culture From Below in Canadian and Québécois Literatures (Université de Sherbrooke, 1-2 May 2009; deadline: 15 Sept. 2008)
• TransCanada 3: Literature, Institutions, Citizenship (Mount Allison University, 16-19 July 2009; deadline: 15 Aug. 2008)

In the last few days I’ve received notices of two new websites that promise to provide unique resources for Canadian and international researchers: Canada Screens: News and Resources on Independent Canadian Cinema, run by Ezra Winton, a Ph.D. student at Carleton University, and Student Journal of Canadian Jewish Studies, published out of Concordia University, where I did my undergraduate degree.

Oxford has launched a new journal called Adaptation, which sounds like a lot of fun. The contents of its first issue can be found here, and a call for papers has appeared as well.

Upon reading that version 2.5 of WordPress had finally been released, I went ahead and upgraded it, despite still being on my first cup of coffee. Predictably, calamity ensued because I did not read the instructions first and so subsequently did not make a backup of my old files—or, rather, I saw that my server had kept regular backups of my WordPress databases, but when I tried to retrieve these backups WordPress just reinstalled itself. So now I’m enjoying version 2.5 of WordPress but I have no website left. I have managed to salvage my few posts thus far, but it might take a while to get the rest back up. If nothing else, I am really glad that I started with the upgrade to this website, rather than the one to the L.M. Montgomery Research Group.
